DriftTV

DriftTV is an ongoing documentary and short-story series by Earthship Media that captures everyday life and work in our community, one story, one day at a time. Participation is always free. All stories are supported by the community and aligned sponsors.

What is DriftTV?

DriftTV is in its launch phase as a crowdfunded documentary series focused on lived experience. Social Media has evolved, but cannot replace local or public cable television, which once was the crown jewel of local community stories. Earthship Media created the DriftTV project to pick up the torch and preserve stories, build understanding, and strengthen community connections. Using an observational, vérité-style approach, DriftTV follows individuals or events that involve the land, people, or change within a community. These films are not interviews alone, nor are they promotional pieces. They are intentional documentaries and short-stories unfold naturally.

Many of the most important stories in rural communities go undocumented. Not because they lack meaning, but because modern media models overlook them. DriftTV was created to change that. This project allows local stories to be told with dignity, trust, and authenticity without imposing financial barriers to production. DriftTV ensures that there is a way to preserve local voices, strengthen connections, and document how global forces—environmental, social, and economic—intersect with everyday life in the Driftless region.

Earthship Media has developed an ethics statement to guide this community-supported project.

Funding Plan (In-Progress)
  • One-time contributions

  • Monthly community supporters

  • Ethical sponsorships aligned with Earthship Media's three pillars: community, conservation, and advocacy

Support

Just as local news and reporting are essential, local community stories that inspire, uplift, inform, and educate are equally crucial for sharing the value within our community. Help sustain independent community storytelling by providing story ideas and considering a monetary sponsorship. Community support is the only way to maintain editorial independence and the best way to monetize short stories in our local area.

Editorial Independence
  • DriftTV is produced independently by Earthship Media.

  • Participation is free

  • Sponsorship does not influence content

  • Supported stories are disclosed transparently

  • Commissioned projects are clearly separate

  • DriftTV is not advertising. It is a public-facing documentary project.

DriftTV is not a one-time series. It is a living archive intended to be revisited, shared, and expanded over time. These stories belong to the community.

About the Filmmaker
